Coalition of civil society groups in Nasarawa State has called on the state governor to desist from interfering with the process of electing principal officers of the state house of assembly.
Spokespersons for the groups, Kwararafa Development Network and Nasarawa State Coalition for Justice, Mr James Allu made the call during a news briefing in Lafia the state capital.
Comrade Allu stated that the call became imperative following recent purported endorsement of one of the aspirants for speaker of the seventh assembly by Governor Abdullahi Sule at a stakeholders meeting of APC.
He stressed the need for the state house of assembly members elect to be allowed to choose their principal officers out of their own convictions devoid of intimidation and imposition.
Comrade Allu alleged that they had uncovered plans to use non state actors to disrupt the forthcoming inaugural sitting of the seventh assembly, which according to him was undemocratic.
“We wish to use this medium to caution all those government agents going round and threatening our elected members to do the governor’s bid at all costs that we know you and your past and you will be responded to at the right time and appropriately too,” he added.
The Spokespersons for the groups however called on the state house of assembly members elect to remain steadfast, upright and focused on determining who to lead them in the hollow chamber.
