Northern Nigeria Human Rights Advocates, a coalition of Human Rights Advocates in Northern Nigeria has condemned in strong terms the shooting of one Mr. Nyommena Salah by Inspector Solomon Damak a Nigerian Police officer serving with the Plateau State Command in Jos.
The group in a statement by its coordinator, Sylvester Yibis condemns what he described as heinous, human degrading and ill treatment of human dignity by the police officer following a political argument at Tudun Wada Community of Jos North local government area of the State.
In the statement, the group noted that the Nigerian Police is saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and properties, especially when a person’s life is under attack, the police is one of the most appropriate bodies to contact.
“The police can also be called when an attempt is made to destroy property, be it private or public property but the reverse was the case with Inspector Solomon Damak who acted unprofessionally by violating the rule of engagement of the Nigeria Police Force.
“Nigerian Police Force is non partisan, non-religious, non-ethnicity, but Inspector Solomon has proved bias and partisan to the extent of shooting someone over political argument. To that end he did not fit into the Nigerian Police Force.” The statement added.
They call on the Nigeria Police Force not to sweep the issue under the carpet but ensure thorough investigation into the matter and lets Justice prevail
NONIRHA assured that their Legal team will follow the case to ensure justice for Mr. Nyommena Salah.
It could be recalled that two weeks ago a Police Officer was said to have shot a friend over political argument and subsequently the Plateau State Police Command confirmed arrest of the suspect in a statement. Adding that the suspect is in their custody and have launched investigation into the matter.
