
Leaders of Jama’atul Nasril Islam JNI and Christian Association of Nigeria CAN in Nasarawa State have called on their followers to remain steadfast and resist any attempt by politicians to use them to cause any crisis during the elections.
Secretary of JNI Imam Muhammad Ali and CAN Chairman in the State Reverend Sunday Emma made the call during a joint press briefing after an emergency meeting in Government House Lafia the Nasarawa State capital.
The religious leaders stated that they had resolved to work closely with traditional rulers as well as security agencies to identify any of their members whose activities were capable of truncating the peace before and after Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Governor Abdullahi Sule in a remark, said the emergency meeting followed some videos trending in the social media few days after the presidential and national assembly elections that are capable of inciting followers of the two religions against one another if immediate action was not taken.
The Governor who noted that Nasarawa state is one of the most peaceful across the country which is not known for religious disaffection called on the leaders to be vanguard of peace and consider the state first before any other thing.
