2022: Nasarawa Police arrests 810 suspects, charges 374 to court

Nasarawa State Police Command says it has arrested a total number of 810 suspects in 2022 for committing various offences, and charged 374 to court.

Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki Muhammed Baba, disclosed this, while briefing newsmen on the achievements of the Command in Lafia.

According to him, the suspects are arrested for various offences ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism to raping, and noted that the command had secured 23 conviction.

“The Command from January to December,2022 has recorded remarkable achievements in its fight against crime and criminality in the state.

“Number of armed robbery suspects arrested are 136, number of suspected kidnappers arrested are 112,  138 suspected cultists are arrested, 59 rape suspects and 365 suspects arrested for other sundry offences.  

“During the year under review number of fire arms recovered are 44,  704 live ammunition recovered, 5 vehicles and 6 motorcycles were also  recovered,. 14 handsets and N600, 000 recovered,” he said.

Baba said the strategies put in place during the yuletide to curtail the excesses of the criminals yielded positive result as Police operatives attached to various divisions recorded breakthrough in their operations.

He gave the breakdown of the operation to include the arrest of a four – man armed robbery syndicate at Sabon – peg, Shabu area of Lafia North,  and arrest of two suspected cultists  around Federal University Lafia and recovered pistol and knife by Anti – cultism unit of the command.

Other arrested during the yuletide were four suspected kidnappers terrorizing Akwanga Local government area of the state and one suspected kidnapper in Nassarawa Eggon who specialized in writing letters to threat his victims.

The Commissioner noted that the suspect confessed to have collected N860, 000 from four different victims.

Baba expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of police, Usman Alkali Baba for finding him worthy to head the command, Gov Abdullahi Sule and traditional rulers for their continued support and collaboration.
