
The Plateau State Gubernatorial Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Dr. Patrick Dakum has flagged-off his campaign for the 2023 general elections with a six points agenda.
The Labour Party Governorship Candidate kicked started his campaign yesterday at the Langtang North Mini Stadium which was attended by massive crowd whose enthusiasm was unconcealed but manifested with torrential cheers, jubilation and ovation.
The six points agenda of Dr. Dakun are, Security, Health, Education, Agriculture, Mining and Tourism.
On security, Dr. Patrick Dakun said to address security, first thing to fight poverty which is one of the causes of insecurity headlong. He promised to boost capacity of hunters and vigilantes to complement the conventional security to provide adequate security of lives and properties.
He also opened up on his discussion with the LP Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi who promised to support him on all fronts to ensure lasting security in Plateau State. According to him, Obi promised not to sit in Aso Rock and give orders but will come down to the state and find lasting solution.
On health, Dakum who is a medical Doctor, said “I am doctor, and all the viruses you are crying about will be dealt with and our hospitals will not be mere consulting clinics.”
Speaking about Education, Dr. Dakun attested that his wife constructed an examination hall for a school because of the passion they have for education and promised that all education institution in the state will be given priority to function well.
On agriculture, the LP gubernatorial candidate said their government will endeavour to have fertilizer blending plants in each of the three Senatorial zones and tractor assembling factory as it was in Bauchi State. He identified that most citizens of the State are farmers, who need fertilizers and tractor to boost their occupation, and promised to supply them adequately.
Dakum faulted the malfunctioning of Langtang North Water Dam, and promised to revamp it for both domestic and irrigation use. “I assure you that one of our priorities here is the provision of water and it’s not just water for drinking but for irrigation so that we will go from production to consumption. We are going to have factories that will be provided which will take cognizance of our economic crops.” He added.
While speaking on mining, the Labour Party Candidate said Plateau State will enjoy the minerals that God has placed in the state as long as Labour Party is in power.
He promised judicious and profitable means of mining and utilization of the rich mineral resources in the state for the benefit of all citizens, adding that miners will be given licence to mine too. He said, “Miners will be given licence so that none on the Plateau will mine tin and will not benefit.
On tourism, Dakum frowned at the deteriorating state of the tourism industry in Plateau State which according to him requires revamping to attracts investors and tourists.
He said “it’s a pity that whoever comes into Plateau will not see any wonderful art of tourist attraction right from Hawan Kibo despite the potentials staring at us in the face. Nothing can be done on the Plateau without tourism. Right from Hawan Kibo, if you come to Plateau, you will see tourism wonders. We’ll make sure there is a space where 100 trucks can be parked to decongest traffick at Hawan Kibo.”
The gubernatorial hopeful promised massive transformation of Plateau into robust, virile and viable state. He said, “We are moving forward. I am declaring the campaign open for every local government. You can commence campaign as it is now officially opened.”
He lamented that Plateau State can be compared to a car whose engine is about knocking and demanding an expert driver who is familiar with the road, saying the expert drivers are Dr. Patrick Dakum and Hon. Edward Pwajok.
He used the avenue and admonished the crowd to get their Permanent Voters Cards, (PVCs), and use them right. He said, “Nigeria will not find lasting peace, Nigeria will not move forward if we don’t use our PVCs right.”
Earlier, the running mate of Dr. Patrick Dakum, Hon Edward Pwajok, slammed the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying it has played 419 on all citizens of Nigeria, Plateau State inclusive. However he added, the 419 will be arrested by the Labour Party.
On his part, the Director General, Dakum/Pwajok Campaign Council, Hon. Joel Gwatau, thanked the crowd for turning out en masse for solidarity to the Labour Party and assured them that they will go round the entire state for the campaign in earnest.
