Plateau Assembly Extends Tenure of Local Council’s Legislative Clerks 

Plateau State House of Assembly has resolved to allow the 17 local government councils Legislative Clarks to continue in office as their tenure expires today.

This is part of the outcome of an Executive session of the House which was made available to Daily News Breakers through a statement signed by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Sanda.

According to the statement the decision was taken pending the reconstitution of a new membership of the Plateau State House of Assembly Service Commission whose tenures expired on the 25th October, 2022.

The statement reads “The Plateau State House of Assembly being mindful of the expiration of the secondment period of Clerks to the Seventeen Local Government Legislative Councils, today being 8th of November 2022, and given that the Tenure of Office of the Chairman and Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly Service Commission, the body vested with the powers to appointing Clerks to the Legislative Councils, expired on the 25th October 2022.

“The House, today at an Executive, resolved that the said Clerks to the Local Government Legislative Councils continue to hold office pending the reconstitution of a new membership for the Plateau State House of Assembly Service Commission who will put in place modalities for the appointment and or otherwise of Clerks to the Local Government Legislative Councils.”

With this resolution the clerks whose tenures expires today 8th November 2022, are to continue in office pending when a new Plateau State House of Assembly Service Commission will be constituted who will in turn take an appropriate decision as permitted by law.
