Plateau: Jos East Council Boss Eulogized late Appointee, Mrs. Janet Atang

The Executive Chairman, Jos East Local Government Council in Plateau State Hon. Yakubu Izang Ezekiel has Eulogized his late appointee Mrs. Janet Akutse Atang who died recently.

The Chairman was speaking at the funeral service of the deceased at COCIN Nassarawa Gwong, Jos, Plateau State.

Speaking alongside his wife, Mrs Rahab Yakubu, the Chairman on behalf of the the people of the area, eulogized the late Janet as a bridge builder, who won the hearts of many through her humility, caring and hard-working.

He maintained that even as Head of Women Unit, she left no stone unturned in ensuring that women were carried along in the affairs of the Council and the Communities as a whole.

In a sermon at the funeral, leading Pastor of the Church, James King who took his scriptural text from the book of Psalm 116.12-15, spoke on the topic “The death of a faithful servant of the Lord” called on Christians to be conscious of their salvation and urged the gathering to emulate late Janet who prepared before the time of her exit to eternity.

He stressed that she will be remember by her commitment and being instrumental to the propagation of the gospel of Christ, selfless in deeds and generous in giving as well as a pillar in the Church developmental strides are living testimonies that she fulfilled her vow.

On his part, her husband, Mr Bulus Atang, who was emotional, said he will miss her for her love, caring, gentility and great virtue.

Late Mrs. Janet Akutse Atang died at the age of 43 years old after a brief illness at Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos.

She survived by her Husband, Bulus Atang, Children, aged parents, brothers, sisters, in-laws, aunties and uncles, among others.

Born into the family of Ada Agwom Ajiji Bala and Ango Ruth Ajiji in Fobur District of Jos East Local Government Area on 9th January, 1979. 

Late Mrs. Janet began her early educational pursuit at Local Education Authority (LEA) Maijuju in 1984 through 1986 and later at EKAN Primary School Fobur in 1986 where she graduated in 1989 with First School living certificate (FSLC).

In her quest for further education, the late Janet gained admission into Government College Jengre in 1990 where she backed her West African Education Certificate (WAEC) in 1996, after earlier obtained a Certificate from National Teachers Institute (NTI), Jos in 1999.

Between 2000 and 2002 the quintessential Janet full of zeal for higher knowledge secured admission with Plateau State Polytechnic, (PLAPOLY) Barkin Ladi where she studied Public Administration.

Late Mrs Atang gained employment with the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB) in 1997 and was posted to Local Education Authority, Jos East untill her appointment as Head of Women Unit by the Honourable (Pastor) Yakubu Izang Ezekiel led administration in Jos East.

Late Janet earned a good reputation through her disposition in selfless service to God and humanity, exhibiting a high sense of responsibility by hard work and dedication to any giving obligatory task, thus being described by many people at different fora as a bridge builder, a unifying factor, a virtuous woman, epitome of hope and a humble women activist, respectively.

She served in many capacities as a leader and member of Executive Council of Afizere Community and Cultural Development Association, (ACCDA) Women Wing both at District and National levels, First Vice president, National Council for Women Society (NCWS), Jos East Chapter.

She was also a dedicated Communicant member of COCIN Nassarawa Gong and distinguished herself in Choir and Women Fellowship among many other activities of the Church. Her hobbies includes, singing, teaching and studying the word of God.

Extract of tributes from memories of the deceased Alma-mater, Organizations, Church, Prominent Personalities, Associations, Relations, Friends and Colleagues in that order, described late Janet’s death as shocking, collosal loss, painful exit, end to mortal being and answer to God’s call, not her end nor her termination but transition into eternity. They all prayed for God’s comfort upon the Family and reposed of her Soul.

Even though she left a vacuum at various capacities which would be too hard to fill, but our optimism lies with the Lord that he would raise persons of liked ingenuity to continue from where she stopped.
