Hon. Solomon Nandy Chendan, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Governorship Candidate in the 2023 general elections in Plateau State, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic mining accident that claimed 37 lives in Zurak Community, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a condolence message addressed to the people of Wase Local Government Area, affected families, and the entire state, Chendan described the explosion at the mining site as shocking and devastating.
“The news of the explosion at the mining site, which claimed the lives of 37 miners, has left us in shock and grief. My thoughts are with the families of the victims, and I pray for comfort and strength for them to bear this irreparable loss,” he stated.
The former governorship candidate acknowledged the risks associated with mining and emphasized the need for improved safety measures to protect citizens engaged in hazardous occupations.
“As a leader, I understand the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens, particularly those involved in high-risk jobs such as mining. I urge the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and take concrete steps to prevent similar tragedies in the future,” he added.
Chendan prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and encouraged the grieving families and the people of Wase to remain strong during the difficult period.
The mining explosion in Zurak Community has thrown the area into mourning, with calls for stricter safety regulations and oversight in mining activities across Plateau State.
