Two members of the Plateau State House of Assembly have tabled a motion before the Assembly, calling on the state government to act on oversight findings that uncovered civil servants holding multiple jobs across local, state, and federal levels, as well as in non-governmental organisations.
Hon. Galadima Ibrahim, who represents Wase State Constituency, and Hon. Daniel Nanbol Listick, representing Langtang North Central, presented the motion during Thursday plenary in Jos.
According to them, the motion is under constitutional provisions in Section 4(6&7) and Section 128 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), as well as Order 15 of the Assembly’s 2021 Standing Orders.
The lawmakers said the investigations revealed senior officials colluding with multiple-job holders, leading to the payment of multiple salaries and allowances, wasting public resources.
The motion urged the Plateau State Governor to direct the Head of Civil Service and all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), to take immediate action to stop these practices by the end of the first quarter of 2026, Identify and sanction civil servants working multiple jobs after this deadline, Recover all undue payments made to such staff after the first quarter of 2026.
Other actions demanded by the lawmakers in the motion was to ensure all MDAs comply with public service rules, provide a comprehensive report to the Assembly on actions taken by the same deadline and to develop a biometric system to prevent future abuse.
The motion, championed by the two legislators under the “PURE Plateau” advocacy, aims to restore accountability and prevent further drain on public funds.
The Assembly is expected to debate the motion in the coming weeks as pressure mounts on the state government to address the issue before the 2027 elections.
