The All Progressives Congress (APC), Plateau State chapter, has strongly criticised former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung, over his comments on Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s recent political realignment with the ruling party.
In a press statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Acting Publicity Secretary, Shittu Bamaiyi, the party described Dalung’s remarks as “querulous” and driven by personal grievances rather than genuine concern for the people of Plateau State.
According to the APC, Dalung’s hostility toward the party and the late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, began after he was dropped from the federal cabinet during the last administration.
The statement alleged that Dalung subsequently turned against the APC, a move that culminated in his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The party said it was therefore not surprised by Dalung’s criticism of Governor Mutfwang, particularly his claim that the governor had abandoned “faith-based leadership” by aligning with the APC and that the move was not in the collective interest of Plateau residents.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the two dominant political parties in Plateau State have always been the APC and the PDP,” the statement said, adding that the recent political realignment has “refashioned and redesigned the political identity of the state.”
The APC dismissed claims that Governor Mutfwang had compromised his values or abandoned his faith, insisting there was no evidence to support such allegations. It accused Dalung of engaging in character assassination and political intimidation.
The party further noted that the large and enthusiastic reception accorded to Governor Mutfwang during his recent outing was a clear sign of popular endorsement by the people of Plateau State.
The statement also advised Dalung to focus on resolving internal issues within his new party, the ADC, citing what it described as a warning from the party’s leadership against actions capable of causing division.
“Governor Mutfwang has shown no intention of compromising the values and principles of the Plateau man and woman,” the APC said, reaffirming its support for the governor’s political direction.
