Comrade Alice Bature Emerges NAGION President

Chairman Association of Plateau State Local Government Information Officers, Comrade Alice Bature has emerged President of the National Association of Government Information Officers of Nigeria, (NAGION)

Report from Yusufu Haruna Magit, has it that comrade Bature was elected during the Association’s National convention in Abuja recently.

Comrade Bature who is the Head of Information Section, Jos South Local Government Council of Plateau State, returned elected as President of the National Association of Government Information Officers of Nigeria through voice vote, with Ikpibaku Shephard Decto from Nassarawa State clinching the position of Vice President in that order.

Others include; Osigweani Scholastica from Enugu South LGA worn the seat of Secretary General, while Danlami Muhammed, Kubau LGA, Kaduna State got the position of Assistant Secretary, Moses Dughdugh, Benue State Local Govt Service Comm emerged as Financial Secretary even as Jane Okoria who hails from Enugu East Local Government area, was returned as Treasurer. 

The position of Organizing Secretary and Public Relations Officer are occupied by Chris Mosinde Ogochukwu from Ugwuni, Delta State, and Vincent Baldeino from Song, Adamawa West LGA, respectively. 

The convention also produced Zonal Vice Chairmen from each of the six geo-political zones that constitute Nigeria as follows; North East, Ali Abdullahi Shishiwaji, North West, Nura Sanusi, North Central, Usman Mohammed, South South, Kodelia Olise and South East, Ihearindueme Amaka.

Earlier, Register, National Institute of Public Information Management of Nigeria Professor Mathew Akinyele had shortly before the dissolution of the incumbent leadership of the Association showered accolades on them for sacrificing their time, energy and resources to ensure the sustainability of the Association to the present stage.

Professor Akinyele further stated that the Information Officers as the backbone of any Organization must be proactive and exhibit sound knowledge at all times for excellent service delivery and charged the next set of the Officials that would emerge to rise to the occasion of confronting the challenges of the Association squarely which according to him are enormous in terms of sustainability, mobilizing support from all Government MDAs Information Officers, unity of purpose and to initiate new measures in other to give a boost to the Association.

On his part, the out-gone National President of NAGION and Information Officer Fofure Local Government Council in Adamawa State, Comrade Daniel Ayuba stated that the Association is an umbrella body of all Information Officers of the Federal, State and the 774 Local Government Councils in Nigeria, stressing that all hands must be on deck to give the new leadership the desired cooperation in other to achieve the feat.

Ayuba unveiled that his administration’s successes followed Professor Mathew Akinyele’s wise counsel, vision and wisdom, resilience and doggedness which according to him endared him and his team to a high sense of responsibility to deliver on their mandates.

He called on the new leadership under the watch of an experienced Unionist, Comrade Alice Bature to consolidate on the foundation laid to enable them move the association to greater heights as he challenged them to initiate new policies that would engender inclusiveness in all ramifications.

In her post election speech, new President of the Association, Comrade Alice Bature, thanked God for bestowing on her the opportunity to stir the ship of the Association as well as the confidence reposed on her by the contingents from across the Federation to serve in that capacity and called on the Association to accord all the necessary backing to the new leadership to improve on the legacies of their predecessors, while pledging to do everything humanly possible to justify the confidence reposed on them. 

Events that preceded the election were Workshop and Annual General Meeting of NAGION, while the out-gone President, Comrade Ayuba Umar was eulogist as President emeritus of the National Association of Government Information Officers of Nigeria as well as inauguration of the new officials as administered by professor Mathew Akinyele.
