Gen. Babangida urges Religious Bodies to Sustain Prayers for Nigeria

The former Nigeria Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has called on religious bodies to continue praying for the existence of Nigeria.

Gen. Babangida made the call when the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger state chapter led by the Chairman, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna visited and prayed for him in honour of his 84th birthday at his uphill mansion in Minna.

While thanking CAN for the visit and prayers, Gen. Babangida said the prayers of both faiths is what is keeping the country together.

“I really appreciate you (CAN), for the prayers. I must tell you that the prayers of both faiths, the Christians and Muslims have been very effective and it is what is keeping the country. 

“I urge you to maintain the relationship in the general interest of the country and the people of the country”.

He further called for a more cordial relationship saying “I want you to maintain the sustained relationship because it is very important for the betterment of our development as a country. And the unity and existence of the country lies in the hands of Christians and Muslims”.

Earlier in his remarks, State Chairman of CAN, who is also the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, commended the former Military President for his life which he said has continued to be enriched by the love and admiration of everyone.

Bishop Yohanna who was represented by Rev. Joshua Markus the State Vice Chairman said Gen. Babangida’s remarkable vision and contributions resonate across various sectors, prayed the Almighty God to grant him good health and fulfilment in the years to come.

Highlight of the meeting was a special prayer on behalf of the entire Christendom for a year filled with blessings and continued impact on Nigeria.
