The Nasarawa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned the elected officials under the party to be wary of the consequences of defecting with their mandate to another party.
Adamu Ninga, State Chairman of the party stated this in a briefing with journalists on Tuesday in Lafia.
According to the Chairman of the leading opposition, there was no crisis whatsoever in the Nasarawa State chapter of the party.
Ninga who was reacting to the defection of Abdullahi Ibrahim-Sa’ad, member representing Ugya/Umaisha State Constituency from PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The member at the floor of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Monday defected to APC.
The PDP boss said that the party was not officially aware of the lawmaker’s defection to the ruling APC.
“The ward officials have not yet communicated with the state office about the resignation of the member from our party.
“We have a channel of communication in the party, so as far as we are concerned, we have not yet received official notification in that respect,” the PDP Chairman added.
He, however, warned that the party knew how it was able to campaign vigorously during the 2023 election despite the intimidation and manipulation to ensure the victory of their members in the state and national assemblies.
He noted that apart from any action the party might take to reclaim its mandate, those who defect would face the wrath of the electorate in the next election.
“We are united with genuine and committed members now more than ever as a party.
“So, with the steps being taken at the party, we do not doubt that we will reclaim the governorship seat and win the majority of seats in the state and national assemblies from the state,” he added.
Ninja further said that PDP remains the best option for the people of the state and the country as records have shown that there is no alternative for now.
He also said that the party had implemented policies and programmes that had positively impacted the lives of the citizenry during its reign at the state and county. (NAN).
