Governorship: Group advocates sustenance of rotation in Nasarawa

A group called Nasarawa West All Progressive Congress (APC) Concerned Group has called on the party to sustain it’s rotational arrangement for the position of governorship in the state.

Mr Benjamin Baka, Chairman of the group stated this during a courtesy call to the chairman of Keffi local government area on Thursday in Keffi.

Baka in his submission said the rotation policy of the party had brought decorum, understanding, direction, peace and focus to the party and the state at large.

“The rotation policy has given us focus, a straight direction and has brought peace to our party. It has reduced rancour in the party to the nearest minimum. It has also reduced unnecessary competition and unnecessary rivalry within the party,” he said.

He added that given how the rotation policy has stabilized and given the party focus, the governorship slot for 2027 governorship election in the state should be given to interested persons in Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone who are interested in contesting for thr position.

“We are all aware Dr Abdullahi Adamu spent right years and hr is from Nasarawa West. Then the governorship was zoned to Nasarawa South in which Late Aliyu Akwe-Doma spent four years and Umaru Al-Makura spent eight years.

“Now it has come to Nasarawa North where the current governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule has already spent six years with two years left.

“So we are saying that the rotation arrangement should br maintained and sustained and the next governorship candidate from the party should emerge from Nasarawa West,” he said.

He then pleaded with traditional rulers and local government chairmen across the state should speak and advocate for the sustenance of the rotation policy of the party.

“That is why we are going round and we say that you chairmen of the local government areas should help us carry this gospel round and God will see us through in maintaining peace and harmony in the state,” he said.

Baka added that two other agendas they are going across the state to advocate is the democratic dividends of the Governor Abdullahi Sule administration and to preach peace and encourage the people of the state to engage more in agricultural activities.

Responding, Dr Idris Damagani, Chairman of Keffi local government area describe the agenda of the group as a well thought out one that will help coordinate selection of candidates to contest for the position of governorship in the state.

He added that the agenda has been carefully and wisely conceived hence it is worthy of been embraced and aligned with.

“I pray the agenda will work for the progress of Nasarawa state. I also believe the agenda is unifying and therefore I call on all the citizens of Nasarawa state to align themselves with it.

“Is it about the successes that has been recorded by this administration of Engineer Abdullahi Sule? Or is it about the peace that you people are advocating for or the call to go into agricultural activities for food sufficiency?

“Or is it the rotational arrangement that has worked well not only in Nasarawa state but the country at large and that is what has informed the peaceful coexistence we are enjoying in this country. So these three agendas are really unifying,” he said.

Damagani who emphasized the importance of the rotation policy as the only permanent solution to political stability in the state and the country at large also pledged to help the group advocate their agenda to othe local government chairmen in the state. (NAN)
