
The Federal Government had commended Prof Shehu Sale, outgoing Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH, Kwara, Sokoto State, for his exceptional performance in executing 16 legacies projects in the facility.
Dr Iziag Salako, State Minister of Health and Social Welfare who gave the commendation while inaugurating the project, said the achievement is a landmark and a model of excellence in public healthcare delivery.
The minister commended the Medical Director and his management team and said his tenure is marked by transformation and visionary progress.
He added that the unwavering commitment to the Medical Director and his team had reformed the institution into a modern, world-class facility.
“These projects are not just physical structures; they are symbols of a renewed hope in our health system and proof of what leadership, vision, and dedication can accomplish.
“This hospital has become a model of excellence in psychiatric care not just for Sokoto State or the Northwest, but for the entire country.
“It is a testament to what strong leadership, commitment to service, and community partnership can achieve and he has set an example for others to follow,” Salako added.
The projects executed by the Medical Director include a molecular Laboratory, a newly built male ward Complex, a female ward complex, a general outpatient department (GOPD) extension, a forensic ward, a biohazard waste incinerator, and a completed Emergency Unit.
Others are a renovated medical director’s office, administrative block extension, two large conference halls for staff training and development, e-library and ICT Centre, modernized pharmacy complex, upgraded water treatment plant, newly constructed Staff Quarters, upgraded power Infrastructure with solar backup systems and renovated recreational facilities for patients’ rehabilitation.
In an emotional speech during the commissioning, Prof. Sale reflected on the hospital’s journey under his leadership.
“When we began this mission, FNPH Kware was in dire need of modern infrastructure and public trust.
“Today, we have not only built structures, we have restored dignity, improved access, and reaffirmed the importance of mental health in national development,” he added.
The medical director attributed the success recorded to the support from his management team and staff of the facility.
He further appreciated President Bola Tinubu, Ministry of Health, Sokoto State Government, Traditional rulers, and the host community for their wonderful support.
In his goodwill message, Alhaji Muhammadu Dan’ya, District Head of Kware, commended the Medical Director for his uncommon commitment and dedication to the facility’s transformation.
He, therefore, conferred the revered traditional title of Zaruman Kware, meaning “Pillar of Kware on Prof. Shehu Sale in recognition of his contributions to the community.
“The title of Zaruman Kware is reserved for individuals who, through selfless service, contribute to our community and elevate our people,” he added.
“The medical director did not just build a hospital. He built hope in our people as well as patients who had to visit the facility for one reason or the other,” the district head added.
