By Suzan Edeh, Bauchi

Senator Shehu Buba

Ibrahim Ori, the Media Aide to Senator Shehu Buba representing Bauchi South Senatorial District has described the allegation of youth booing the Senator in his constituency over alleged neglect as false and baseless.

Recall that a report in the media alleged that some aggrieved youths in Toro, headquarters of Toro LGA of Bauchi on Friday, trooped out in their hundreds to show their anger over perceived neglect by the Senator since he was elected.

Ibrahim who stated that he was an eye witness who accompanied the Senator for a condolence visit in his constituency stated that nothing of such incident ever happened.

” Our attention has been drawn to a media publication, that Senator Shehu Buba was booed over alleged neglect in his constituency. We would have ignored the report, but we want to set the record straight because such an incident never happened. All the details of the story was full of alleged and alleged, we feel that writing a story full of alleged in almost every paragraph is not fair.

” How can a writer who calls himself a professional use the word alleged in almost all the paragraphs in his story. I believe professionally in the interest of justice where a reporter is not hundred percent sure of a story, he should drop it.We don’t know the motive behind writing such a story that is based on false speculation and mischief”

“To set the record straight, Shehu Buba visited Toro peacefully , he paid a condolence visit and donated N65 million to his people in Toro.N50 million for Mosque building, N5 Million for the family of the deceased , N5 Million for elders and another N5 million for youths. He finished his visit peacefully , we don’t know anything about the booing during the visit, anything that happened after he left, should not be linked to him”

“We know journalists have a vital role to play in the society through responsible reporting and constructive storytelling. They can help shape public perception, promote social cohesion and contribute to the ongoing efforts to build a more secure and united nation, but not through mischievous writeups”

“It is very unfortunate when people just decide to conjur stories to give flavour to their malice and hate campaign.
The central role of journalists in national development should be built on integrity, truth and objectivity which every professional journalist should follow to guide their work, particularly at a time when the country is grappling with security and socioeconomic challenges” he said

Ori said Shehu Buba remains committed to due process and transparency in all legislative affairs in order to give the people of Bauchi South Senatorial district and the entire Bauchi State a good representation.
