INEC distributes sensitive materials for rerun elections in two Nasarawa Constituencies

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distributed sensitive materials for the conduct of rerun elections in two constituencies in Nasarawa State.

It would be recalled that the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja had in Nov. 2023, ordered a rerun election in Keana and Doma South constituencies.

Speaking to newsmen after the distribution of the materials on Friday in Lafia, Mr Shehu El-Wahab, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner said that the rerun would be in five of the poling units in Agaza ward of Keana Local Government Area and One in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area of the state.

He said that all the political parties that participated in the main election would be on the ballot for the rerun.

“For Doma South constituency, election would hold at Angwan Sarki Bassa1 polling unit 009 in Rukubi, with 869 PVCs collected.

“In Keana constituency, the rerun would hold in five polling units- Kofar Sarki 001, Kofar Inuwa 002, Central Primary School A 003, Central Primary School B 004, as well as Kofar Gazagu 005, all in Agaza ward with a total of 2,310 PVCs collected,” the resident commissioner added.

El-Wahab said that the commission was fully prepared for the polls which was why the permanent staff members of the commission drawn from across the state have been deployed for the elections.

He however explained that lecturers who were properly trained would serve as collation officers in the two constituencies.

The Resident Commissioner assured that the commission would conduct free, fair and credible elections in the affected areas.

He therefore, said they would remain neutral and provide a level playing field for the candidates of all political parties participating in the elections in line with the electoral acts and the law.

Meanwhile, the candidates of all political parties that are participating in the elections have signed peace accords in the presence of Umar Nadada, Commissioner of Police in the state. (NAN).
