Nasarawa Tribunal judgment: PDP restricts celebration to party offices, candidate residence

The Nasarawa State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has directed its supporters to restrict thier celebration over their recent victory at the tribunal to party offices at the state capital and respective Local Government Areas (LGas).

Mr Francis Orogu, PDP Chairman in the state gave the directive while addressing journalists shortly after the State Working Committee meeting of the party on Monday in Lafia.

The Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Lafia in a split judgment on Monday, Oct. 2 annulled the election of Gov. Abdullahi Sule and announced Mr David Ombugadu as the real winner of the March 18 election in the state.

Orogu explained that the decision became imperative to avoid confrontation and crisis because the party is known for peace and they would sustain it in the overall interest of the state.

“We are law abiding and our supporters are also law abiding, so anybody causing problem in the guise of celebrating victory of the judgement is not our member or supporter.

“The police should arrest those causing problem or trying to cause any problem in the state as well as those making inciting statements in the social media,” the PDP chairman added.

He said that they have uncovered plans by some people to disguise as PDP supporters just to cause problem.

He called on the security agencies to arrest anybody under whatever guise breaking law and order in the state.

The leader of PDP in the state added that the victory at the tribunal was indeed a victory for the entire masses of the state because at last God came to their rescue.

He explained that God who had helped them at the tribunal would complete his work by helping them at the appeal court and supreme court.

“Our candidate is coming to build and develop and not to destroy as some are insinuating just to get sympathy.

“So, all rumour about the plan by our party to dethrone some traditional rulers in the state is fake news, as nobody has such plan.

“The traditional rulers are our fathers, and they should treat all of us as their children without any discrimination,” he added.

He also advised traditional rulers not to allow themselves to be use by politicians for political gains.

Justice Ezekiel Ajayi, Chairman of the tribunal and Justice Chiemelie Onaga, declared Mr David Ombugadu of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the election.

Meanwhile, the only dissenting judgment was delivered by Justice Ibrahim Mashi, who dismissed the petition filed by the PDP candidate for lacking in merit and upheld the declaration of Gov. Sule by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). (NAN).
