Suicide: Medical Expert calls for regular checkup on Mental Health

Dr. Hassan Ikrama, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) has called on members of the public to go for regular checkup on mental health to guard against commiting suicide.

The CMD made the call at an event to commemorate the world-suicide-prevention-day on Wednesday in Lafia.

Ikrama also advised people to always share their challenges to families and friends in oder to get relief and free themselves from anxiety.

“A problem shared they said is half solve, hence the need for people to always share thier problems,” he added.

In his remark, Dr Paul Agbo, Consultant Psychiatrist with the hospital said suicide is real and urged love ones to care for those depressed.

The Consultant added that the factors responsible for suicide includes; poverty, divorce, unemployment, mental illness among others.

He therefore, said regular mental health checkup, counselling and adequate care for loved ones would go a long way to prevent suicide.
