
The management of Jos East local government council in Plateau State have commenced vaccination against Anthrax disease to curtail spread of the disease from neighboring States.
Performing the symbolic exercise at Angware, recently, the Transition Implementation Chairman of the Council Hon. Markus Useini Nyam appreciated His Excellency, the Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for timely purchase of the vaccines to stop the spread of the disease.
Statement by the Information Officer of the council Magit, Yusufu Haruna, said Hon. Nyam was represented by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretary, Innocent Abok Adamu, who also commended the Plateau State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Honourable Bugama Ishaku through the Divisional Animal Health Officer, Akak Samuel Achiko for taken time to sensitize animal breeders in Jos East Local Government Area on the dangers of Anthrax disease and measures of mitigating same.
He therefore assured that the Council on her part would provide the needed logistics to both the State livestock Officers and Veterinary Officers during the exercise, calling on stakeholders and the affected animal breeders to cooperate with the vaccinators to achieve the feat.

Plateau State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Honourable Bugama Ishaku who was represented by the Divisional Animal Health Officer, Akak Samuel Achiko revealed that Anthrax is a Zoonotic disease which is capable of infecting both animals and human beings hence, the need for animal breeders, Council Authorities, Traditional Council, Ardos, community and religious leaders to educate their subjects to support the vaccination.
He added that they have enough doses of the vaccines to be administered free of charged to all the animals within the locality.
On their part, Director of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Amos Bature Jugu, Director Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Mrs Mercy Nankpak David, Rtd Director of Agric from Jos East Dr Mohammed Inuwa, Head of Veterinary Section, Jos East LGC, Ezekiel Maigadi all pledged to accord the exercise their professionalism to succeed as well as urged the people of Jos East to imbibe the culture of environmental Sanitation to avoid communicable diseases.
Agwom Izere of Izere Nation, Rev. Dr. Isaac Azi Wakili who was represented by Ward head of Fadan Fursum, Agwom Adam Musa Nyam and Ardo Jos East Mallam Shehu Bello as represented by Mallam Yuguda Adamu both thanked the present administration at the State and Local Government levels for the awareness meeting and the provision of free vaccines for their animals and pledged their readiness to mobilize their people towards accepting the vaccination.
