The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has declared Ahmed Yusuf-Ahmed of the All Progressives Congress (APC) returned unopposed as Councillor of Katakpa Ward in Toto Local Government Area.
The Chairman of the Commission, Mr Ayuba Wandai, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lafia by Patience Fada, NASIEC Director of Public Affairs and ICT.
The statement explained that the declaration followed the expiration of the stipulated period for the submission of nomination papers and withdrawal of candidates from political parties for the councillorship election.
It said Yusuf-Ahmed was the only duly nominated candidate remaining at the close of the prescribed period.
According to the statement, Wandai cited Section 109(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which provides that where only one duly nominated candidate remains after the nomination and withdrawal periods, the candidate shall be declared returned unopposed.
The commission disclosed that a Declaration of Result Form had been completed for the election, with a copy issued to Yusuf-Ahmed, while the original was retained by the commission in line with its procedures.
NASIEC congratulated the APC candidate on his declaration and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting transparent, credible and lawful elections in Nasarawa State.
The commission said the development marked the conclusion of the electoral process for the Katakpa Ward councillorship position, subject to any applicable legal or electoral challenge. (NAN)
