The Nasarawa State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening the health sector to ensure quality healthcare delivery, particularly in maternal and child health.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Gaza Gwamna, stated this while receiving a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Lafia.

The delegation was in the state to inspect facilities as part of preparations for the 67th National Council on Health, scheduled to commence in the first week of November 2026.

Dr Gwamna said the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule had prioritised the health sector over the past seven years through significant investments in healthcare infrastructure, hospital upgrades and the procurement of medical equipment.

He commended the Federal Government for granting Nasarawa State the hosting rights for the 67th National Council on Health and assured the delegation that the state government would provide the necessary facilities to ensure a hitch-free event.

The leader of the delegation and Director of Health Planning, Research and Statistics at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Dr John Ovuoraye, said the visit was to brief the state government on the team’s preliminary findings regarding its level of preparedness for the event.

Dr Ovuoraye expressed satisfaction with the preparations so far, particularly the provision of accommodation for more than 1,000 delegates expected from across the country.

He disclosed that preparations were about 70 per cent complete and urged the state government to expedite action on the outstanding observations raised by the team, including the provision of clinic facilities at the event venue.

The hosting of the 67th National Council on Health will mark the first time Nasarawa State has hosted the annual gathering since its creation in 1996. (Radio Nigeria)
