The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nasarawa State says it would display the preliminary voter register for new registrants across the 147 electoral wards of the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Malam Mohamed Abubakar, stated this at a press conference on Wednesday in Lafia.
Abubakar, who was represented by the Administrative Secretary of the Commission in the state, Mr Ajuh Jacob, said the exercise was in line with the provisions of Section 19 (1) of the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended).
He noted that the Act mandates the Commission to display the register not less than 90 days before the general election.
According to him, the preliminary register would be displayed in all 147 electoral wards from Oct. 9 to Oct. 15, for claims, objections and collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
He urged registered voters to take advantage of the window to cross-check their details, including names, photographs, date of birth and polling units.
“Voters will check their names and other details and make claims from Oct. 9 to Oct. 15,” he said.
The REC explained that after the seven-day display, voters can visit INEC offices at the headquarters of the 13 Local Government Areas of the state for collection of their PVCs.
“The PVCs from the first phase of the registration exercise conducted from Aug. 18 to Dec. 10, 2025 will be ready for collection at the 147 electoral wards during the seven-day exercise and thereafter at the LGA level.
“Those who registered during the subsequent phases of the Continuous Voter Registration should not panic as their PVCs will be distributed after that of the first phase.
“PVCs will still be distributed until seven days before the general election, so the commission will still issue unclaimed PVCs to owners if they come to our offices for collection,” Abubakar said.
He added that the exercise would also enable the commission to remove ineligible persons, including underage and multiple registrations, where complaints are received. (NAN).
