PLASU Makes History, Appoints Two Female Deputy Vice Chancellors

Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has appointed two female academics as Deputy Vice Chancellors, making it the second university in Nigeria to have two female DVCs serving simultaneously.

The university’s Senate appointed Associate Professor Keziah Ayuba as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, and Associate Professor Martha Niri Choji as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, during its 106th Special Meeting held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Statement by Masara Kim, the University’s Public Relations Officer, said the meeting was chaired by the Vice Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Shedrack Gaya Best.

According to the university, the appointments followed the expiration of the tenures of the former Deputy Vice Chancellors and were made after nominations by the Vice Chancellor in accordance with Section 5 of the First Schedule of the University Law.

While Associate Professor Ayuba was re-appointed for a second two-year term after completing her first tenure, Associate Professor Choji was appointed for the first time to replace Professor Moses Galadima, who had served two terms as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, from 2022.

With the development, PLASU joins the University of Ibadan as the second Nigerian university to have two female Deputy Vice Chancellors serving at the same time. The University of Ibadan became the first Nigerian university to achieve the feat in November 2021.

Associate Professor Choji has served the university in various capacities, including Head of the Department of Mathematics, Head of the Remedial Science Programme and Head of the newly established Department of Statistics.

Speaking on the appointments, Professor Best said the nominations reflected his administration’s commitment to equity, inclusivity and merit, while reiterating his commitment to quality service delivery.

Welcoming the new DVCs, the Vice Chancellor expressed confidence in their ability to drive excellence and urged them to immediately settle into their new responsibilities.

“We have a lot to catch up on. We are due for accreditation of 11 programmes and are also commencing the new academic session,” Professor Best said.

The Vice Chancellor also commended the outgoing DVC Academic, Professor Moses P. Galadima, for what he described as his selfless service to the university, particularly his contributions to accreditation, examinations, new programmes and the digitisation of academic processes.

“He has worked selflessly for the accreditation of academic programmes in this university, including postgraduate programmes. He has been a source of encouragement for examinations and the commencement of new programmes,” he said.

Professor Best further credited Galadima with helping to improve fee payment compliance, examination administration, student registration and transcript digitisation at the institution.

Responding on behalf of the newly appointed DVCs, Associate Professor Ayuba thanked the Senate and the Vice Chancellor for the opportunity to serve and pledged to support the vision of the Best administration.

“Together as a team, all things are possible,” she said.
