Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has challenged the newly elected chairmen of the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to view their election as a solemn responsibility to deliver transparent and development-oriented governance at the grassroots.
Governor Mohammed gave the charge during a swearing-in ceremony held at the Old Banquet Hall of the Bauchi State Government House.
The event followed the conclusion of the local government elections, which saw the All Progressives Movement (APM) achieve a landslide victory, winning all 20 chairmanship seats and 319 out of 323 councillorship seats.
Urging the new leaders to justify the confidence of the electorate, the Governor emphasized that local government administration must directly improve living conditions, particularly for rural communities.
He identified roads, healthcare, education, agriculture, and water supply as critical areas requiring immediate and sustained attention.
“Public office must not be viewed merely as an avenue for political reward, but as a platform for service, accountability, and measurable development,” Governor Mohammed cautioned.
He further stressed the importance of local government autonomy, instructing the chairmen to manage public funds responsibly and establish feedback mechanisms so residents can monitor government programmes.
The Governor noted that holding regular local elections since 2019 underscores his administration’s commitment to democratic governance.
Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated officials, the Chairman of Ningi LGA, Yahuza Adamu, expressed appreciation for the mandate.
He assured the Governor that the chairmen understand their responsibilities and are dedicated to improving grassroots infrastructure while fulfilling their campaign promises.
The swearing-in marks a new phase of grassroots administration in Bauchi State, with public expectations high for greater financial accountability and visible infrastructural progress.
