The Plateau State Sustainable Development Goals Project Support Unit (SDGs-PSU), in partnership with the Jos North Local Government Council, has commissioned and handed over four renovated Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) to communities in Babale, Ungwan Rogo, Ungwan Rimi and Kabong areas of Jos North Local Government Area.
The commissioning ceremonies were led by the Plateau State Project Coordinator of SDGs-PSU, Mrs. Nanbam Danjuma-Lot, who described the interventions as a demonstration of “what responsive leadership and effective partnership can accomplish.”
At Babale, Mrs. Danjuma-Lot said the facility, “which once suffered from serious structural defects, has now been transformed into a more conducive environment for quality healthcare through comprehensive renovation works, including repairs to walls, ceilings, doors, windows and toilet facilities, as well as complete repainting.”
She urged residents to safeguard the investment, saying, “I urge the people of Babale to take ownership of this facility, protect it from vandalism, maintain it diligently, and make maximum use of the healthcare services available here. Together, let us continue advancing SDGs 3, 6, 9, 11 and 17.”
In Ungwan Rogo, the Project Coordinator noted that the centre “has been transformed through extensive renovation works and benefited from the replacement of roofing sheets, new ceilings, doors and windows, as well as a solar energy system that will significantly improve uninterrupted healthcare service delivery, especially during emergencies and at night.”
She commended the Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council for his commitment to people-centred governance and appreciated the Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for creating an enabling environment that promotes impactful collaborations.
“I call on the people of Ungwan Rogo to protect this investment, utilise it responsibly, and support our healthcare workers in providing quality services. Together, we are strengthening SDGs 3, 7, 9, 11 and 17,” she stated.
At Ungwan Rimi, Mrs. Danjuma-Lot said the intervention “goes beyond renovation,” noting that the Ungwan Rimi Primary Health Care Centre now benefits from a solar-powered motorised borehole that guarantees clean water supply, as well as a solar energy system that ensures reliable electricity for quality healthcare delivery.
“Other works carried out included roof repairs, new ceilings, doors and windows, floor rehabilitation, improved toilets and plumbing, repainting of the entire building and an upgraded labour room,” she explained.
She described the project as “a clear demonstration of our commitment to integrated development, combining healthcare, clean water, sanitation and renewable energy in one intervention.”
“I salute the Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council for his outstanding leadership and appreciate His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for providing the enabling environment that makes collaborations like this possible. I encourage the community to protect these facilities and ensure they remain functional for many years. Together, we are advancing SDGs 3, 6, 7, 9 and 17,” she stated.
While commissioning the Kabong PHC, the Coordinator noted that, beyond the comprehensive renovation works carried out, including the installation of new roofing sheets, ceilings, a well-equipped public toilet and repainting of the entire building, the facility now has a solar-powered motorised borehole that guarantees access to clean water.
She added that the intervention had also provided improved sanitation facilities and a refurbished environment that would enhance quality healthcare delivery for mothers, children and the entire community.
She further said, “I sincerely commend the Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council for his dedication to improving the wellbeing of his people. I also appreciate the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, whose administration continues to support partnerships that deliver sustainable development across Plateau State.”
“To the good people of Kabong, this facility belongs to you. Please protect it, maintain it, and make full use of the quality healthcare services now available. Let this investment continue to improve lives and advance SDGs 3, 6, 9, 11 and 17,” she stated.
Mrs. Danjuma-Lot also referenced the successful collaboration in 2025 that led to the renovation of the Plateau State Rehabilitation Centre for the Physically Impaired, saying it “reaffirms our shared commitment to improving lives.”
She further reiterated that the Council’s visionary leadership and its unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of the people, in line with Governor Mutfwang’s “The Time Is Now” administration, continued to encourage collaborations that deliver tangible development to Plateau communities.
The Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Hon. John Christopher, said the collaboration “has helped improve the healthcare facilities in the Council area in line with the priorities of his administration.”
