The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda has expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the construction of a new dam in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the project as a major milestone that will enhance agriculture, improve livelihoods and strengthen food security in the area.
The APC National Chairman gave the commendation during an inspection of the proposed dam site Gile community alongside the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Terlumun Utsev, following the President’s approval of the project for Kanke and neighbouring communities.
According to him, the inspection marked another significant step in the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure to Plateau State, noting that the visit came only weeks after the flag-off of the Babban Lamba–Sharam Phase II Road project in the same area.
He described the proposed dam as a transformative project that will provide irrigation water to farmers across Kanke and adjoining Local Government Areas, thereby increasing agricultural productivity, creating economic opportunities and improving the standard of living of rural communities.
The APC National Chairman noted that the project aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen food security through sustainable irrigation and improved access to water for farming activities.
He further said the project reflects the growing presence of the Federal Government in Plateau State, pointing out that about 500 kilometres of federal roads are currently under construction across the state to improve connectivity with neighbouring states.
He added that the ongoing investments in roads, water resources, agriculture and other key sectors demonstrate the practical implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.
The APC leader reiterated his gratitude to President Tinubu for approving what he described as a landmark project for the people of Kanke, while also commending the Minister and his team for their commitment to bringing the project to reality.
He also praised the warm cultural reception accorded to the Minister by the Ngas people during the visit, describing it as a reflection of the community’s appreciation for the Federal Government’s interventions and reaffirmed his commitment to attracting more developmental projects to Plateau State.
Speaking during the inspection, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, stressed that water remains essential for human development and agricultural growth, adding that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring the timely completion of the project.
He assured residents that the Ministry would work diligently to deliver the dam within the shortest possible time so that communities could begin to benefit from improved irrigation and increased agricultural output.
