Anglican Bishop Urges Nigerian Leaders to Take Responsibility for Security, Economic Challenges

By Chris Nyamtu

The Bishop of the Anglican Communion, Lafia Diocese, Right Reverend Godwin Robinson, has called on leaders at all levels in Nigeria to embrace responsibility and take ownership of finding lasting solutions to the country’s security and economic challenges.

Bishop Robinson made the call while delivering a sermon at the conclusion of a three-day special church programme in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

According to the cleric, the primary responsibility of leadership is to inspire confidence among the people by taking practical steps to address the nation’s worsening security situation, rather than blaming particular regions or offering excuses.

He noted that leaders should draw lessons from the biblical story of David, who remained steadfast in the face of adversity, turned to God for guidance and solutions, and refused to blame others despite losing almost everything around him.

The Bishop specifically urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritise restoring hope among Nigerians through a collective and proactive approach to ending insecurity across all parts of the country within the shortest possible time.

He further observed that the economic realities experienced by many Nigerians, particularly those in rural communities, sharply contrast with the picture often portrayed in Abuja, the nation’s seat of power.

According to him, millions of households across the country continue to grapple with abject poverty, fear of attacks by bandits and insurgents, and growing divisions and mistrust along ethno-religious lines.

Bishop Robinson stressed the need for a sincere national dialogue devoid of political interests to enable Nigerians reach a common ground that will reposition the country on the path of economic recovery, national unity and peaceful coexistence.

He maintained that only purposeful leadership, collective action and genuine commitment to the welfare of the people can restore public confidence and put Nigeria back on the path of sustainable development and lasting peace. (Radio Nigeria)
