The Nigeria Police Force has commenced a nationwide sensitization and awareness campaign aimed at strengthening the implementation of its Complaints Response Unit (CRU) initiative and enhancing accountability within the Force.

Speaking during a sensitization programme for officers and men of the Nasarawa State Police Command in Lafia, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Tunde Disu, said the Complaints Response Unit has been reactivated as part of the Force’s renewed commitment to result-oriented and people-centered policing.

Represented by the Head of the Complaints Response Unit, CSP Anietie Iniedu, the Inspector-General explained that the campaign was designed to build the capacity of police personnel and educate them on the procedures for receiving, processing, and addressing complaints from members of the public concerning police misconduct.

According to him, the Complaints Response Unit, which was established in 2015, has been revitalized to provide an effective platform for receiving and resolving complaints against police personnel involved in acts of misconduct and other unethical practices.

The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Mr. Shettima Mohammed, urged officers to embrace the initiative as a means of fostering a stronger relationship between the police and the public while enhancing professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

He noted that the initiative would play a critical role in exposing and addressing cases of extortion, illegal collection of money at checkpoints, demands for payment before granting bail, and other forms of unprofessional conduct by police officers.

The Police Commissioner further emphasized that professionalism, integrity, and respect for the rights of citizens remain essential to effective policing and public trust.

Officials of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) were also in attendance at the sensitization and awareness programme. (Radio Nigeria)
