The Federal Government has officially commissioned two newly completed female hostels at Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) in Bauchi State to tackle student accommodation challenges.
The project was executed under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) 2024 Annual Intervention Projects.
The newly commissioned infrastructure consists of two modern, 40-room ensuite female hostels. They are strategically located across the university’s dual campuses.

The dual-campus development aims to directly improve student welfare, comfort, and campus security.
The ceremony at the Gadau campus formed part of a broader, nationwide presidential commissioning of TETFund-backed tertiary projects.
Malam Isa Mohammed Tahir, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Regional Integration, represented the federal and state authorities at the event.
He described the hostels as a vital investment in the nation’s future leaders.
“The hostel is more than a building; it is a home away from home where friendships will be formed, ideas shared, dreams nurtured, and future leaders developed,” Tahir stated.
He also urged the students to maintain the facilities properly.
SAZU Vice Chancellor, Professor Fatimah Tahir, praised the initiative as a major milestone for the institution.
She highlighted that a conducive living environment is deeply tied to academic success.
“This project is more than bricks and fittings, it reflects TETFund’s commitment to improving the welfare of students and our determination as a university management to prioritize student-centred development” Professor Tahir said.
The Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sustaining the TETFund mandate and expanding educational infrastructure across Nigerian tertiary institutions
