Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in Nasarawa State under the aegis of Concerned ADC members have rejected the results of the party’s governorship primaries held ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group made its position known in a press briefing on Friday in Lafia, calling on the ADC national leadership to nullify the declaration of the winner and include all concealed results before ascertaining the real winner of the primary.
Speaking on behalf of other members of the group, Haruna Muhammad-Ubandoma accused the state party leadership and the committee responsible for the primary of handpicking a candidate without following the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
“We are concerned ADC members who believe in internal democracy. The so-called primary held in Nasarawa State was a charade.
“The Chairman of the committee without following due process cancelled the results from Karu and Toto LGAs without any reason.
“Results from other LGAs that were accepted by the committee and announced were full of cancellations, changes of figures and even correcting fluid was used in many of the results to change figures.
“If the committee will accept such embarrassing results, what could be the reason to cancel results from other LGAs,” he stressed.
The group urged the ADC National Working Committee to intervene immediately by setting up an independent panel to investigate the conduct of the primary and declare it inconclusive.
“We reject the outcome in totality. It does not reflect the will of ADC members in Nasarawa State.
“We demand a review of the entire results from the 13 LGAs of the state so that the real winner of the primary will be declared at the end of the day,” he added.
They warned that failure to address their grievances may lead to members losing interest in the party that was supposed to be a credible option for the citizens of the state.
Meanwhile, it could be recalled that the Chairman of the ADC Primary Elections Committee for Nasarawa State, Solomon Dalung, Former Minister of Youth and Sports declared Retired Maj Gen. Nuhu Angbazo the winner of the election.
Dalung announced that Angbazo polled 23,93 votes to defeat Mohammed Abdullahi, Former Minister of Environment, who came second with 18,197 votes, while Mohamed Onawo, serving Senator representing Nasarawa South garnered 15,282 votes and Osana Odonye received 4,797 votes.
On the cancellation of results from Toto LGA, Dalung said the electoral officer was held hostage in Keffi by an agent of one of the aspirants before being released with the result.
He added that the Karu result was voided because the electoral officer abandoned his post citing threats and violence, after which the result was submitted by an unauthorised individual. (NAN).
