The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has affirmed a serving House of Representatives member, Abubakar Dahiru, as its candidate for the Nasarawa South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
SDP also affirmed a serving member of the State House Assembly, Solomon Akwashiki, as a candidate for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency.

The chairman of the screening / electoral Committee announced their affirmation on Saturday in Lafia.
Hussaini explained that Daihiru and Akwashiki emerged through consensus.
Rep Dahiru, while speaking with newsmen shortly after his affirmation, expressed appreciation to the people of Nasarawa South Senatorial District for giving him another opportunity to serve them at the highest level.
He described the process through which he emerged as a demonstration of love and unity by the people of the zone.
“Firstly, I want to thank Almighty God. I also want to thank the people of the Southern Senatorial Zone for the confidence and trust they repose in me.
“Everybody has seen the process; it clearly shows that there is transparency in the SDP,” he stated.
He said that the SDP would engender good governance and people-centred policies and programmes aimed at solving the problem of the common man.
“I have matured through experience. I’ve been in the House of Representatives for 12 years, and I felt I should go to the Senate where I perceive I can have more opportunities to serve my people better,” Rep Dahiru stated.
Also speaking with newsmen after the affirmation, Solomon Akwashiki, said he would build on the achievements of Rep. Dahiru.
“I thank the Social Democratic Party. This is the second time they have given me an opportunity, and I must appreciate them.
“I have the experience. I’ve served as a councillor, and now I’m a member of the State Assembly, when it comes to legislative experience, I have it, and I will consolidate on the good legacy of my dear elder brother.
“As he is going to the Senate, I am going to the House of Representatives. Together we will continue to attract federal opportunities to our senatorial zone,” Akwashiki declared. (NAN)
