An aspirant under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 elections, Honourable Jonathan Markus Umbugu, popularly known as Shettima Gale, has withdrawn from the contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency of Nasarawa State.
Umbugu announced his withdrawal in a press statement made available to journalists on Friday, saying the decision followed extensive consultations with family members, political associates, stakeholders, and supporters across the constituency.
According to him, the decision was taken in the interest of peace, unity, and the progress of the APC in the constituency and Nasarawa State at large.
“This decision was reached after wide consultations with family members, political associates, stakeholders, supporters, and respected leaders across the constituency.
“It is a decision taken in good faith and in the best interest of peace, unity, and progress of our dear party and constituency,” Umbugu stated.
The APC chieftain expressed appreciation to his supporters and party loyalists for their encouragement and confidence in his aspiration.
“I deeply appreciate the overwhelming support, encouragement, and confidence reposed in me by the good people of Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon, and Wamba throughout this period of consultation and political engagement,” he said.
Despite stepping down from the race, Umbugu reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, pledging continued support for the party and its programmes. “Although I am stepping down from the race, my commitment to the ideals and success of the All Progressives Congress remains unwavering”.
He further called on his supporters and political associates to remain peaceful, united, and loyal to the APC.
“I call on all my supporters and political associates to remain calm, united, law-abiding, and continue to support the APC as we collectively work for the progress of our people,” he said.
Umbugu, widely known in political circles as Shettima Gale, is considered one of the notable political figures from the Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency under the ruling party, the APC.
