Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper, Recover Rifle in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered a firearm and ammunition in a fresh crackdown on criminal activities across the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the arrest was made on March 20, 2026, following credible intelligence received by operatives of the 38 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Akwanga.

The police disclosed that the suspect, identified as Sale Hassan, 32, a resident of Rugan Hassan in Adudu Community, Awe Local Government Area, was apprehended after being sighted with a firearm.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, Mobile Police operatives were deployed to the area, leading to the suspect’s arrest. A search conducted on him resulted in the recovery of an AK-49 rifle and four rounds of live 7.56mm ammunition.

The Command said the suspect, along with the recovered exhibits, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution. Efforts are also ongoing to track down other members of the suspect’s alleged criminal network.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Nasarawa State. He also called on residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid ongoing security operations.

The arrest marks another milestone in the Command’s sustained efforts to tackle kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the state.
