Nasarawa Govt. reaffirms commitment to sustain women inclusion

By Oboh Linus, Lafia

Nasarawa State Government says it remains committed to promoting gender inclusion to increase women’s participation in governance and public service.

Dr Labaran Magaji, Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, gave this assurance while receiving the state leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Women Commission in Lafia.

According to Magaji, the present administration of Gov. Abdullahi Sule is gender sensitive in its appointments and intentional in providing opportunities for women to thrive and contribute meaningfully to governance.

Magaji said the appointment of women to head highly sensitive positions such as Head of Civil Service, Chief Judge of the state, and other competitive agencies being headed by women was a testament to the administration’s commitment to gender inclusion.

“All of these appointments show that Nasarawa State is not lagging behind in including women in the act of governance. So, when the space is so small, we still make an effort to see that the women are represented.

“And we will be looking out for anywhere we’re going to have some kind of lapses, we’ll do the needful to make sure that women are always represented at every given opportunity,” he assured.

He encouraged members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Women Commission to embrace innovative ideas and initiatives that would advance the role of women in governance and public service.

“You need to strengthen your movement properly, articulate what your blueprints are, and also articulate your pathway. We’ll now start thinking of the implementation strategy so that you can stand out,” he advised.

Earlier speaking, Comrade Khadijat Abdulsalam, Chairperson, NLC Women Commission, Nasarawa state, said the visit was to appreciate the Government for its support to women, and to seek stronger collaboration with the government to promote women’s participation in governance.

Abdulsalam, while advocating full integration of women into decision-making processes, emphasised including the NLC Women Commission in all government programmes and activities and other developmental initiatives in the state.

“We decided to pay SSG a visit to commend him and Gov. Sule for promoting gender inclusion. The present administration is the most female friendly Govt we ever had.

‘So, we come to strengthen that bond between the Nigeria organised labour women commission and Nasarawa state so that we can work together for the betterment of women and the state,” she said. (NAN)
