The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Friday swore in 2200 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Corps members deployed to Nasarawa state for the 2026 national service programme.
Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state declared the orientation course open at the Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC Permanent orientation camp in Keffi local government area of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the governor was represented by Mr Yakubu Kwanta, Nasarawa state Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development.
In his address, Sule congratulated the corps members for successfully completing their academic programmes from various tertiary institutions of learning, which qualified them for national service.
He told thr corps members that their predecessors who served in the state lived up to the ideals of the scheme hence the call on them to sustain the tempo while their service year last.
“Similarly, you are expected to exhibit a high sense of commitment and due diligence by contributing your quota to the overall development of our society,” he said.
The governor told the corps members to count themselves lucky to be posted to the state due to the proximity with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja and also considering the abundant economic potentials ready to be harnessed and also the peaceful atmospheric condition being enjoyed in the state.
He then assured the corps members of his administration commitment to sustain it’s support for corps members who distinguished themselves in the service of the nation.
“I should reiterate that any corps member that initiates a project/programme that will touch the lives of the people of a particular community will be rewarded accordingly. This has always been out tradition and we pledge to sustain it for subsequent generations,” he said.
He also assured them of his administration commitment to continue to improve and sustain the welfare of corps members in the state, adding that the disposition informed the execution of various projects in the orientation camp as part of government support to the scheme.
Sle advised the corps members to familiarize themselves with the NYSC Bye-laws which according to him, are vital guides for the service year.
He then commended the NYSC management, corps members and collaborating agencies for their unwavering dedication to the scheme’s objectives.
In her welcome address, Mrs Salamatu Muhammad, Nasarawa state NYSC Coordinator, thanked the governor for his consistent support to the scheme and commitment to youth development and nation building.
She described the orientation as a vital exercise aimed at instilling core NYSC values while promoting discipline, unity, national integration and fostering a sense of responsibility among participants.
She added that the orientation course is far more than a routine program but a carefully structured experience designed to introduce corps members to the values, goals, and vision of NYSC
“More importantly, it aims to promote unity, cultural understanding and a strong sense of patriotism. Although it is regimented in nature, the orientation course serves as a platform for physical and mental training, discipline and the development of a collective sense of responsibility,” she said.
She said the 2200 corps members posted to the state comprising 1010 males and 1190 females have displayed enthusiasm, resilience and an admirable spirit of duty.
“Their energy has created a positive atmosphere that gives us confidence on the success of this course,” she added. (NAN)
