
Some lawmakers from the 10th Plateau State House of Assembly and top Management staff of the Assembly are currently attending a Legislative Leadership Training in London, the United Kingdom, UK.
The Legislative Leadership Training and Study Tour holding at the Copthorne Tara Hotel, City of London is organized Cater and Merger Consults of Centre for Leadership and Good Governance, UK, in partnership with the Centre for Training Research and Audit of Governance (CENTRAGE), UK from 5th to 9th January, 2026.
The training, according to Hon. Daniel Nanbol Listick, member representing Langtang North Central at the Plateau State House of Assembly, forms part of the Plateau State government commitment to strengthening democratic governance, enhancing institutional capacity, and exposing public officials to global best practices in legislative administration and public sector leadership.
Hon. Listick who is one of the participants, said the study tour provided a unique opportunity for participants to engage with leading governance institutions in the UK. “The tour broadened our perspectives on legislative processes, and deepened our understanding of effective leadership in modern democratic systems.
“The programme was designed to strengthen the leadership capacity of Plateau State legislators and senior management staff, enhance participants’ understanding of legislative procedures, oversight mechanisms, and policy formulation.
“Is also aimed to provide exposure to international standards in governance, accountability, and public administration, foster collaboration, teamwork, and shared learning between lawmakers and senior bureaucrats. Facilitate practical learning through visits to key governance institutions in the United Kingdom”, Hon. Nanbol said
The main theme of the training is “How to build an effective legislative leadership, oversight and inclusivity applying AI for administrative, accountability and legislative proceedings for a democratic Governance and productivity.”
The training sessions delivered distinguished facilitators with extensive experience in legislative studies, governance, and leadership development, covered a wide range of topics, which includes “Principles of Legislative Leadership and Democratic Governance. Legislative oversight and accountability mechanism in modern governance.
Other important topics includes, ” “Effective Lawmaking and Committee System Management, Public Financial Management and Budget Oversight, Ethics, Accountability, and Transparency in Public Office, Strategic Leadership, Change Management, and Institutional Reform, Policy Analysis, Evidence‑Based Decision Making, and Stakeholder Engagement, Communication, Negotiation, and Conflict Resolution Skills for Legislators, The role of AI in enhancing legislative administration and data management.”
The training was said to be more of an interactive sessions, combining lectures, case studies, group discussions, and practical exercises to ensure a rich and impactful learning experience.
