Eggon Cultural and Development Association ( ECDA) Worldwide, has urged the general public to disregard the purported endorsement of Mr Solomon Akwashiki, member representing Lafia Central Constituency for Lafia/ Obi Federal constituency seat come 2027 by the ECDA Southern Senatorial Zone of Nasarawa State.
Abuluya made the call on Monday during a press conference in Nassarawa-Eggon, Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Abuluya said that the selection of a candidate is the Sole prerogative of political parties, based on their own constitutions and internal democratic processes. It is not the business of ECDA.
” The purported endorsement of any political aspirant (Hon Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki) by the ECDA Southern Zone is hereby rescinded and declared invalid.
” ECDA is and must always remain, non partisan as our strength has always been our unity, our fairness to one another and our commitment to the common good ,” he said
According to him, I have called this press conference today to address a matter of
urgent and grave importance to the unity, integrity, and foundational principles of the Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA).
” It has come to the firm attention of the National Executive Council that a meeting was convened on December 13, 2025, by the leadership of the ECDA Southern Senatorial Zone, purportedly to deliberate on “The position of the Eggon Nation in the seat of House of Representatives, Lafia/Obi.”
” The outcome of that meeting was the reported endorsement of a specific political aspirant, Hon. Solomon Akwashiki, for the House of Representatives seat 2027.
” On behalf of the National Executive Council, our members worldwide, and in the supreme interest of the Eggon people, | hereby state categorically and without equivocation
” This purported endorsement is null, void and of no effect, it is totally and unequivocally rejected by the ECDA National leadership,” he said
The ECDA President said that the decision by the Southern Zone Leadership represents an egregious violation of the ECDA constitution and a dangerous departure from ECDA core mandate.
” Let me on clear why: Our constitution in Section 4, Subsection 1 is unambiguous. It charges ECDA to promote the spirit of unity, peace, understanding, and a sense of belonging among the Eggon people regardless of status, ideology, sex, religion, or place of origin.
” By endorsing one aspirant over other qualified sons and daughters of Eggon who may be vying for the same position across different political parties, the Southern Zone leadership has actively sown division and contravened this very first principle of our existence. ECDA is, and must always remain, non-partisan,” he said
Abuluya said that ECDA is the Umbrella and unifying platform for all Eggon people.
” We are not and will never become , a political action committee , a campaign wing or an endorsement vehicle for any individual or political party.
” This ill-advised action is capable of projecting the entire Eggon Nation as engaging in narrow and divisive ethnic politics.
” The selection of a candidate is the sole prerogative of political parties, based on their own constitutions and internal democratic processes. It is not the business of ECDA.
“Our strength has always been our unity, our fairness to one another, and our commitment to the common good,” he added
The ECDA President called on all chapters of ECDA ,both at home and in the Diaspora , to refrain from any activity that seeks to use the association’s platform for partisan political endorsement.
He reaffirm ECDA neutrality and commitment to providing a level playing field for all Eggon sons and daughters ,irrespective of their political affiliations.
” We encourage all our members to participate actively in the democratic process but to do so as individuals exercising their civil rights ,not under the coerced banner of an ECDA,”.
