Rev. Reuben Hassan of the Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN Local Church Council , LCC Sabon Gari, in Jos Plateau State has stressed the need for forgiveness in marriage.
The clergy said this in a sermon at the wedding solemnization of Mr. Akilahyel Kadiri and his wife, Hyelsinta Ibrahim at COCIN LCC Biu, Borno State on Saturday, where he noted that forgiveness is one of the golden rules of marriage.
The clergy who spoke on the topic, “Forgive One another” after reading the book of Ephesians 4:31-32 in the Holy Bible, noted that biblical marriage is a lifetime journey of no separation, hence tolerance, forgiveness, forbearance and empathy are needed to ensure harmonious living.
He said marriages are collapsing today due to lack of forgiveness couples, adding that forgiveness will give them peace and long life in their marriage.
He urged them to put away bitterness, anger, harsh words and any form of wickedness that kills marriage. He emphasized that for their marriage to endure and stand the taste of time, they must get rid of bitterness and imbibe forgiveness.
Rev. Hassan advised them to use sweet words to attract one another and above all, look up to God, serve Him faithfully and wholeheartedly, saying in God lies the success and blessings of their marriage.
He urged them to imbibe humility and say sorry to each other when one is wrong, get rid of malice and create space to accommodate each other’s wrong doing as they pray together as family.
While performing the wedding solemnization, Rev. Musa Maina, the leading pastor of COCIN LCC Biu, said marriage is sacred, and God expect genuine love in marriage as Christ love the church, noting that marriage is a special gift from God, but not limited to sexual relationship alone.
He encouraged them to seek God’s face in their home and they will see His blessings.
The wedding witness large turnout of families, friends and well wishes from Jos, Yola and Biu. Guests were later thrilled at the reception in honour of the couple held within the church premises.
