Dr Shehu Wahab, Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nasarawa State, says that 35,013 persons have so far registered during the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, who stated this at a news conference on Monday in Lafia, said as of Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025, 35, 013 persons were registered across the 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

He said that the first quarter of the CVR exercise, which lasted for four months, started on August 25 and would end on December 10.

The REC explained that out of the number, 16, 122 representing 46.05 per cent, are male, 18, while 891, representing 53. 95 per cent are female.

Wahab further said that out of the 35,013 who registered during the ongoing exercise, 317 are Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), 28, while 324 youths are across the two genders.

He noted that within the period under review, 16,941 persons applied for transfer of Voter Registration, 9,212 applied for update of Voter Information, 6 and 119 applied for replacement of damaged cards, respectively.

“These figures are provisional because we will soon undertake the automated biometric identification system clean-up process to identify and remove all invalid registrations, including multiple registrations, to come up with a credible and clean register of voters.

“The Voter register for the state is still 1,899,244 while the Permanent Voter Cards collected are 1,847,752.

“After the conclusion of the CRV and clean-up exercise, we will display the preliminary register of voters for claims and objections for scrutiny with a view to updating and producing an authentic Voter register for the state,” he explained.

Wahab further said that the commission would resume the second phase of the CVR on January 5, 2026, to ensure that every eligible person in the state is registered ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The REC, however, explained that the commission had experienced a decline in people for the continuous registration exercise from the first week it had started to the fourth week.

He appealed to those who want to register or update their records to visit the headquarters of the commission in Lafia or its offices in the 13 LGAs on Dec. 10, or from January 5 to do so.

The INEC Resident Commissioner therefore, assured voters that the commission would consider opening registration centres at the electoral ward level to enable more voters to participate in the second phase of the exercise. (NAN).
