Nasarawa Christian Pilgrim Board partners NUJ, seeks sponsorship for pilgrims

The Nasarawa State Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board has called on individuals to sponsor themselves and other Christians from the state to participate in a pilgrimage to Jerusalem for spiritual upliftment.

Mr Alfa Yusuf-Tsenya, Executive Secretary of the board, made the call on Thursday in Lafia while hosting the Executive Council Members of the Nasarawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The Executive Secretary stated that the private sponsorship would complement the ones usually done by the State Government for more Christians to participate in the spiritual exercise.

He explained that the pilgrimage to the Holy Land offers Christians the opportunity of visiting the sites where some of the major religious events, as explained in the Bible, took place.

The Executive Secretary explained that over the years and even presently, the state government has been the major sponsor of Christian Pilgrimage in the state and said that it should not be left to the government alone.

Yusuf-Tsenya further stated that the board would partner with journalists in the state for proper sensitisation of the people on the need to invest in the spiritual exercise to seek God’s blessings.

He said the importance of journalists to the dissemination of information and enlightenment of the people cannot be overemphasised and pledged to provide them with the necessary information to properly report the activities of the board.

He also promised to carry the union along in the activities and exercise of the board to ensure that some of its members participate in the spiritual exercise.

The Secretary also appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for the opportunity he was given to serve the state and promised to discharge his duties with every sense of responsibility.

Earlier, Salihu Mohammed-Alkali, NUJ Chairman in the state congratulated the Executive Secretary on his well-deserved appointment and wished him well in his assignment.

The NUJ Chairman also pledged to support the board to succeed in their activities and appealed that the union be considered for slots to pilgrimage to enable its members strengthen their spiritual standing. (NAN).
