Governor Mohammed Presents N878 billion Budget For 2026 To Bauchi Assembly

The Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has presented a proposed budget of N878 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.

Presenting the budget before the State House of Assembly at the temporal complex of the Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre Bauchi, Governor Mohammed said that the budget proposal was designed to consolidate the gains of his administration, complete all ongoing projects and initiate new development efforts that would sustain prosperity and stability in the state.

The Governor explained that the budget was prepared against the backdrop of major macroeconomic reforms at the national level, including the removal of Premium Motor Spirit PMS Subsidies and fiscal corrections that have helped Nigeria avert a major fiscal crisis.

According to him, 2026 budget, christened “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability” is made up of recurrent expenditure of N310,686,691,269 billion representing 35 percent while capital expenditure receives the sum of N567,466,216,630 representing 65 percent.

Mohammed stated that the 2026 budget is 41.0 7 percent higher than the 2025 budget as well as Supplementary budget, attributing the increase to increased revenue and the anticipatory rise in prices as a result of tax reforms to implemented from January 2026.

He said that the process of the budget preparation was participatory and inclusive, adding that public consultations were conducted in the three Senatorial zone where inputs from stakeholders were elicited and incorporated into the budget proposal.

Mohammed added that the community charter of demand was adopted in the budget preparation, providing detailed request for intervention submitted by the various committees across the state.

He listed key priorities for the 2026 fiscal year, including completion of inherited and ongoing projects, infrastructure expansion and social protection initiatives aimed at improving the lives of citizens in the state.

In his remarks, Speaker of the Bauchi House of Assembly, Abubakar Y Suleiman commended the Governor for the timely submission of the budget, describing it as another milestone in the state democratic development.

He said that the 2026 budget reflects the aspirations of the people following an inclusive and participatory process, involving public hearings and stakeholders consultations.

The Speaker reiterated the commitment of the Assembly to thoroughly scrutinise the budget through its standing and Sectoral committees, assuring citizens that the lawmakers will continue to provide strong legislative support and oversight to ensure quality Service Delivery.
