Major General Olurotimi Azubuike Awolo has assumed duty as the Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command of the Nigerian Army, following recent appointments and redeployments within the service. He takes over from Major General Hillary Nzan, who has retired.
In a statement issued the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 4 Special Forces Command, Doma, Lieutenant Colonel Ikechukwu Stephen Eze, the new Commander urged troops to ensure that every action they take is professionally justifiable and fosters mutual relationships devoid of sentiment and rancour.
He noted that unity, teamwork and comradeship remain the defining attributes of the 4 Special Forces, stressing that officers and soldiers must remain committed to the ideals of their operational responsibilities in line with the mandate of the Nigerian Army.
Major General Awolo pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor, describing the strides recorded under the former leadership as impactful. He emphasised the need for personnel to remain relentless in securing all parts of the country, given the command’s strategic role as first responders to operational demands.
He added that collective effort among troops would not only enhance their performance in the field but also help actualise the Chief of Army Staff’s vision, which prioritises welfare, training and equipment.
Major General Awolo becomes the 6th Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command. Before his appointment, he served as the officer in charge of Campaign Planning at the Army Headquarters, Department of Army Operations.
The 4 Special Forces Command is mandated to conduct unconventional warfare operations across the country, acting independently or in support of regular forces. Its highly mobile brigades and special operations battalions are deployed across various locations nationwide.
