The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nasarawa State Command, has said it has concluded plans to introduce a Best Driver of the Year award aimed at promoting road safety and compliance with traffic regulations among motorists in the state.
The State Sector Commander, Yahaya Adikwu, announced this while receiving the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa State Council, led its Chairman, Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali, in Lafia
The Sector Commander explained that the initiative is aimed at rewarding outstanding drivers and encouraging others to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations, in order to promote safe driving culture in line with global best practices.
The Sector Commander stated that the Corps would work in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to identify deserving drivers and also educate them on their responsibilities in both the private and commercial sectors.
Adikwu emphasized the need for all drivers to ensure compliance with safety measures while on the highways and to always possess valid and accredited documents to avoid sanctions and road mishaps.

He noted that achieving the objectives of road safety requires the support of media professionals, describing journalism as one of the most noble professions in the world. He therefore called for closer collaboration with the media to enhance public enlightenment and promote the Corps’ activities.
Adikwu also urged journalists to remain united and supportive of one another, adding that his experience in the media before joining the Corps had shaped his passion for public service.
In his response, the Chairman of the NUJ Nasarawa State Council, Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali, commended the FRSC Sector Commander for his leadership initiatives and assured him of the journalists’ full support through wide publicity of the Corps’ programmes and campaigns.
While congratulating him on his appointment, Comrade Alkali said the media community in the state is proud of his achievements, expressing optimism that his background in journalism would help strengthen the partnership between the FRSC and the media for better service delivery.
