Gov. Sule Reaffirms Commitment to Upholding Press Freedom

Governor Abdullahi sule of Nasarawa state has said his administration remains committed to upholding the principles of press freedom as corner stone of democracy and good governance in the state.  

The Governor stated this while addressing stakeholders during the Eye Witness Newspaper Annual Lecture and Award Series 2025, with the Theme: “From Vision to Legacy: Governor Abdullahi Sule’s holistic development and imperatives of continuity in Nasarawa State” held in Lafia, the State Capital.    

Governor Abdullahi Sule explained that his administration recognizes the media as a vital partner in promoting transparency, accountability and civil engagement.

The governor represented the Commissioner of information, culture and tourism, Dr. Ibrahim Tanko said his administration will continue to provide enabling environment for journalists to operate freely and responsibly.

Governor Sule also posited that the administration has consistently engage the media as the bridge between the people and government there encouraging open dialogue, construction criticism and factual reporting, while Commending eyewitness newspaper for the unwavering services to the people through factual information dissemination.

In his welcome address, the Chairman planning committee, Lamus Rayyanu also commended the leadership style of Governor Abdullahi Sule for his unwavering commitment towards the development and peaceful atmosphere of the state.

Also speaking,the Guest speaker, former Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa state, Mr Timothy Anjide  highlighted some of the legacy projects executed Governor Abdullahi Sule and his good leadership style that portrait investment, human capital development among others.

He called on Governor Sule to answer the clarion call of the people of Nasarawa North, because he will  impact positively not only in the Northern senatorial zone, but the state and north central zone in general.

He explained that Sule’s administration has focused on education reform, youth employment, technical skills development, ensuring that the people are equipped for the modern economy.

Mr.Timothy also submitted that Sule’s leadership, rests on five Central pillars, includes respect for human dignity, economic diversification, infrastructure renewal,human capital development and good governance.

During the event, more than 4 personalities received awards which included the Former Executive Director of National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Faisal Shuaib among others.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Dr. Faisal Shuaibu represented the former Majority leader of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Abdulhameed Kwara and Chief Medical Director Federal Medical Center Keffi, Dr.Yahaya Baba Adamu also appreciated the Publisher of Eye Witness Newspapers for recognizing their contributions of humanitarian services to the people.

The publisher of Eye Witness Newspapers, Mr. Donatus Nadi saluted Governor Sule and other stakeholders for supporting the organization to succeed at all times.

Highlights of the event was presentation of awards to Governor Abdullahi Sule, Emir of Lafia Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad (Rtd) as icon of peace and unity, former Controller, Nigeria Customs, Mr.Joseph Attah, Agbawu Mek Agbawu as best performing local government Chairman 2025, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman Vice Chancellor Nasarawa State University Keffi.
