Nasarawa CAN urges Nigerians to participate in ongoing CVR

The Nasarawa State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged Nigerians to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

This is contained in a communique signed by Rev. Sunday Emmah, CAN Chairman in the state and issued to journalists after their meeting on Saturday in Lafia.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had commenced the CVR exercise on Monday Aug. 18 to offer an opportunity for fresh registration, voter transfer, update of voter information, replacement of the Permanent Voter’s Card that was lost, defaced or damaged.

The online pre-registration had commenced on Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, while the in-person registration would start on Aug. 25 at the headquarters of the commission in Lafia and their offices in the 12 Local Government Areas of the state.

The CAN Chairman said that the registration would offer the citizens the opportunity to vote in future elections, thereby deciding the fate of those seeking to govern them.

On the insecurity situation, the association condemned the attacks, killings and displacement of people from their ancestral homes in Benue, Plateau and some parts of Nasarawa State and urged the government to tackle the situation.

“The government and the security agencies should beef up security to curtail the space of kidnapping, banditry, terrorism and other heinous crimes in the state and beyond,” it added.

The association also appreciated the Federal Government for bringing succour to the hardship in the country, particularly through its positive economic policies that brought about the recent reduction in the prices of foodstuffs.

It is said that the prices of farming inputs, building materials, and other household items are increasingly high by the day and urged the government to subsidise the prices of items to alleviate the hardship experienced by people.

It encouraged the people to make good use of social media platforms to promote peace and harmony and desist from instigating religious violence through malicious and provocative statements.

The CAN Chairman, therefore, appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State for his inclusive leadership and urged him to sustain and improve on it to give every religion a sense of belonging. (NAN).
