Bauchi: Governor Mohammed Flags Off 2025 Tree Planting Campaign

Promises to Reward Farmers for Tree Planting as Part of Green Revolution Drive

The Bauchi State Government has announced a new initiative to reward farmers who plant trees on their farmlands as part of the green revolution efforts aimed at promoting environmental sustainability.

Governor Bala Mohammed who made this known on Thursday while flagging off the 2025 Annual Tree Planting Campaign in Dass Local Government Area of the state, said that the initiative is designed to support the restoration of degraded lands for the benefit of future generations.

Governor Mohammed stressed on the importance of collective and shared responsibility in protecting the environment , pointing out that Bauchi State must take the lead in championing the green revolution.

He directed the State Ministry of Housing and Environment to extend the campaign across all 20 local government areas in light of the alarming rate of uncontrolled deforestation at the grassroots level and called on traditional institutions, religious leaders and individuals to support the administration’s efforts advocating for tree planting and ensuring the survival of planted trees.

Governor Mohammed lamented the growing environmental challenges facing Bauchi and the wider Sahel region, such as desertification, water scarcity, declining crop yields and displacement, which he attributed to climate change and poor land-use practices that includes deforestation, bush burning, and overgrazing.

He emphasized that tree planting must evolve into a mass movement and people’s revolution, urging every individual, institution, and community to actively participate actively in the campaign.

The Governor revealed that the state, through collaboration with ACReSAL and other partners, has already raised millions of seedlings which has been distributed to schools, communities, and public institutions for planting.

He announced that over one million trees will be planted this year across all 20 LGAs, including economic trees, as well as indigenous species.

Also speaking, the State Project Coordinator of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes ACReSAL, Dr. Kabir Ibrahim, disclosed that about 40,000 hectares of land have already been restored under the project in collaboration with the state government.

He commended the state for choosing Dass LGA as the flag-off site and reaffirmed ACReSAL’s strategic role in environmental protection, calling for strict monitoring and compliance to ensure survival of the planted trees.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Ahmed Kawule reiterated the ministry’s commitment to environmental protection adding that a sufficient number of trained personnel have been mobilized to drive this year’s campaign effectively.
