Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan, the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly has on Wednesday resigned his position as Speaker of the 10th Assembly.
Following his resignation, members of the Plateau State House of Assembly in an emergency sitting at the Old Government House Jos, elected former Majority leader in the 9th Assembly Naanlong Daniel representing Mikang State Constituency as new Speaker
The election took place on Wednesday during a closed-door meeting with the former Speaker of the Assembly, Gabriel Dewan, and other lawmakers.
The former Speaker Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan had earlier on Wednesday 2nd May, 2025 tendered his resignation letter which was addressed to members of the State Assembly. Dewan in his letter of resignation appreciated his colleagues for the confidence response on him to serve as speaker of the House and their support to his leadership all through.
He also thanked the Governor of the State for the cordial working relationship between the Legislative arm and the Executive in the state. Dewan also extended his heartfelt gratitude to Staff of the Assembly assured of working for peace in the state and beyond.
