
A cross section of stakeholders of All Progressives Congress (APC) from Nasarawa State have called on President Bola Tinubu and the leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the country to make Senator Umaru Al-Makura it’s next National Chairman given the resignation of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The stakeholders made the call in a chat with journalists on Sunday in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
Dr Donald Amagbo from Lafia said that the resignation of Ganduje as the on Friday, June 27, has opened a critical opportunity for the North Central geopolitical zone to reclaim the chairmanship slot, in line with the principles of balance, fairness, and justice.
He explained that President Bola Tinubu is from the South-West and Senate President Godswill Akpabio from the South-South, zoning the APC chairmanship to the North Central is essential for maintaining political equilibrium and fostering inclusivity.
He added that Al-Makura, a Former Governor of Nasarawa State, a former Senator has stands out as the mose credible and suitable candidate to for the chairmanship of the party at this time from the North-Central Zone.
“Al-Makura’s extensive experience, proven leadership, and unwavering commitment to the APC’s ideals make him an ideal candidate.
“As Nigeria’s first and only governor elected under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Al-Makura has a strong track record of leadership.
The APC chieftain argued that Al-Makura loyalty, humility, and grassroots connection make him a natural choice for the APC chairmanship.
He added that should give Al-Makura this opportunity in order to ensure stability and renewed direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Al-Makura is Known for his calm disposition and strategic thinking and had played a pivotal role in consolidating the CPC structure during its merger with other political parties to form the APC in 2013.
“His leadership will restore internal confidence, improve party discipline, and set the stage for a more inclusive and forward-looking APC,” he added.
Also Matthew Alaku said that although the party has yet to officially announce its next chairman, consultations are ongoing, and many see Al-Makura as the frontrunner for the job.
Alaku said that Al-Makura has a strong history of advocating for democracy, having been active in the National Republican Convention, NRC during the 3rd Republic.
He added that Al-Makura’s influence extends beyond Nasarawa State, as his role in the Senate enables him to contribute to national policy discussions and engage with political leaders across Nigeria.
“Almakura is a rare gift to the polity, an intelligent politician, strategist, and crowd puller and his strength lies in his powers of ideas and commitment to the lofty goals of life,” he added.
