
In a thrilling match, Nasarawa United Football Club stunned visiting Akwa United FC with a 2-0 win in their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match day 32 fixture.
The game was played on Sunday at the Lafia Township Stadium, where the home team’s fans cheered them on after being cleared to return the league body following a ban imposed on December 22, 2024.
The decisive victory boosted Nasarawa United’s chances of escaping relegation, propelling them to 16th place on the NPFL table with 39 points, while Akwa United remained in 18th with 37 points.

Ugochukwu Leonard and Abubakar Garba scored the two goals of the game in the second and 84 minutes of the match.
They both capitalised on defensive errors the visiting team to give the home team the entire three points.
Nasarawa site, currently ranked 16th with 39 points, has so far escaped relegation and is expected to sustain the gain, while Akwa Utd FC is 18 on the table with 37 points.
In a post-match interview, Nasarawa Utd’s Assistant Technical Adviser, Mohammed Saidu, praised his players for following instructions.
